There is also a large Marriott chain hotel here (previously The Royal Scot), and The Gyle Shopping Centre is nearby.

Dominated by a major road junction, the most notable feature is the Maybury Roadhouse, built in 1935 and one of Edinburgh's finest examples of Art Deco architecture.
When Craig Levein left Hearts to manage Leicester City, he made signing Maybury one of his priorities and Alan joined up at the Walkers Stadium in January 2005 for a nominal fee, in a double signing with striker Mark de Vries, both signing three and a half-year contracts.
His first appearances on television were small roles in the TV series Silent Witness (1996) and Dalziel and Pascoe (1996), followed by roles in TV film such as Nicholas Hawthorne in Ruth Rendell's Bribery and Corruption (1997), Lord Cheshire in The Canterville Ghost (1997) and Jonathan Maybury in The Ice House (1997).
Through the 1980s, Maybury produced a number of short films and music videos including the video for Sinéad O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U", which was voted #35 in a Channel 4 poll of the greatest pop music videos.
Shortly after the tragedy, Hindley and Brady move with Hindley's grandmother Ellen Maybury, to a new council house: 16 Wardle Brook Avenue, on the Hattersley estate near Hyde.
