One of these, Lieutenant Leslie Powell, became an ace in his own right, with 19 successes, 18 of which were in tandem with McKeever.
In 2012 McKeever won the K1 200m event at the Word Cup in Poznan he also won the K1 200m at the European Championships in 2010 Trasona, Spain and the kayak World Cup race in Szeged, Hungary.
His parents, John McFarland and Mary McKeever, emigrated from Armagh.
McKeever is most known for starring in a television adaptation of the musical Wonderful Town opposite Rosalind Russell in 1958.
During the 2007 provincial election McKeever ran in London West where he received 234 votes, 0.47% of all ballots cast.

Under McKeever's leadership, the Freedom Party of Ontario nominated 24 candidates in the 2003 provincial election and 15 candidates in the 2007 provincial election.

McKeever graduated from Trent University with an Honours Bachelor of Science in 1989 and a Master of Arts from the University of Western Ontario in 1991 and a law degree from the same university in 1995.
For the inaugural programme in 2005, the Foundation invited seven Royal Academicians: John Bellany, Brendan Neiland, Paul Huxley, Christopher Orr, David Mach, Allen Jones and Ian McKeever.
