In 1995 he was appointed an Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia, for "service to Australian-Thai relations and contributions to the world AIDS debate".
Mechai Viravaidya founded the Population and Community Development Association in 1974, at which time it was named the Community-Based Family Planning Service.
The film looks at solutions to the problems of the previous film and at those who are making a difference, including the Bangladeshi creator of the micro-loan system Muhammad Yunus, Thailand's premier family planner Mechai Viravaidya,and The Miracle Foundation, among many others.
The demography of Thailand has changed since the 1970s, mostly because of the promotion of small family sizes with the help of family planning outreach programs such as the Population and Community Development Association and efforts of Mechai Viravaidya.
