Eyrecourt

Eyrecourt is served by two public houses, a post office, library, village store, garage and fast food outlet, pharmacy, tractor dealer, medical centre, primary school, numerous small enterprises and the Meelick-Eyrecourt GAA club.


Aaron Crossley Hobart Seymour

The elder brother of Michael Hobart Seymour, he was the son of John Crossley Seymour, vicar of Caherelly in the Church of Ireland diocese of Cashel, who married the eldest daughter of Edward Wight, rector of Meelick, County Limerick, a member of an old Surrey family.

John na Seamar Burke

One of his most notorious acts was the destruction of Athenry in 1572, after which he demolished most of the castles in Clanricarde, afterwards plundering south County Galway, County Roscommon, and crossed the Shannon into County Westmeath, where he buried Mullingar, Meelick and Athlone.

Meelick Martello Tower

Meelick Martello Tower is a Martello tower constructed on Moran Island in the River Shannon between Meelick, County Galway and Clonahenoge, County Offaly.

Michael Hobart Seymour

He was born on 29 September 1800, the sixth son of John Crossley Seymour, vicar of Caherelly (d. 19 May 1831), who married in January 1789 Catherine, eldest daughter and coheiress of Rev. Edward Wight, rector of Meelick in Limerick.

Spanish Arch

In the 18th century the Eyre family of Eyrecourt, County Galway, created an extension of the quays called The Long Walk and created the arches to allow access from the town to the new quays.
