It hit the coast of Backerganj (near Meghna estuary) in present-day Barisal, Bangladesh, killing about 200,000 people, half of whom were drowned by the storm surge, and the remainder died in the resultant famine.
It is bounded by Lakshmipur and Barisal Districts to the north, the Bay of Bengal to the south, by Lakshmipur and Noakhali districts, the (lower) Meghna river and Shahbazpur Channel to the east, and by Patuakhali District and the Tetulia river to the west.
The festival was organized by Kerala-based filmmaker Melwyn Williams Chirayath and his business associate Meghna Dubey, partners at Monasse Films.
On February 12, 2013, while on its way back to Dhaka from the Meghna Group of Industries factory at Sonargaon’s Meghna Ghat, a MD Helicopters MD 600 helicopter developed mechanical problem and crashed in the paddy field at Nawraparha under the upazila’s Kayetparha union.
Places where gas is commercially refines include: Titas, Habiganj, Bakhrabad, Narshingdi, Meghna, Sylhet, Kailashtilla, Rashidpur, Beanibazar, Fenchuganj and Salda Nadi.
When the Surma and the Kushiyara finally rejoin in Kishoreganj District above Bhairab Bazar, the river is known as the Meghna River.
Down to Chandpur, Meghna is hydrographically referred to as the Upper Meghna.

When the Padma joins with the Jamuna River, the largest distributary of the Brahmaputra, and they join with the Meghna in Chandpur District, the result is the Lower Meghna.
