John Ingram Lockhart, of Shorfield House, near Rumsey, Hampshire, and Great Haseley House, Oxfordshire, was the youngest son of three children of James Lockhart of Melchett Park, Wiltshire, and London, (a partner in Lockhart, Wallace, and Co., bankers, Pall Mall) – himself a descendant of the old Scottish family of that name, and on the female side from the sister of Oliver Cromwell (Miss Gray, a member of the Society of Friends).
In spite of Bob's more convincing and better received 'drag' act, and Baldrick's now seemingly "feeble impression of Buster Keaton," Melchett proclaims the second night's show a disaster, recognising Bob and still not realising she is a female, and immediately stops any possibility of a tour (and Blackadder leaving).
Peter Robert Henry Mond, 4th Baron Melchett (born 24 February 1948), son of the British Steel Corporation Chairman Sir Julian Mond and Sonia Melchett (now Sinclair), was educated at Eton and Cambridge, where he read Law.

Himself the owner of an 890 acre (360 hectares) farm, Lord Melchett was arrested in 1999 when he was present at an environmental protest against a genetically modified crop trial, at which crops were destroyed by campaigners.
He appears in "Chains", the final episode of Blackadder II, as a German master of disguise who kidnaps Lord Blackadder and Lord Melchett, in 1566 and imprisons them in his dungeon under the watch of German guards and a Spanish inquisitorial co-conspirator.
