Merloni hails from a family who founded the Merloni group and created the brand, Ariston, among the others.
Prior to Putnam Lovell, Gurgenidze served as Head of Technology Corporate Finance, Head of M&A and held other positions at ABN Amro advising such clients as Swift, Reuters, Moneyline Telerate, Wirtualna Polska, Marconi, Andrew Corporation, Merloni Elettrodomestici, News Corp, Global One, Golden Telecom and UPC.
Son of Aristide Merloni He is the Honorary Chairman of Indesit Company whose Chairman is his son Andrea Merloni), and Fineldo (chaired by his daughter Antonella) the family holding company that controls Indesit Company and other Group interests.

In 1975 he founded Merloni Elettrodomestici (renamed Indesit Company in 2005) and he became the Chairman, holding the position continuously until 29 April 2010, when he left the presidency to his son Andrea and he was appointed Honorary Chairman.
