There are broad-leaved forests of Girkan type-chestnut-leaved oak, hornbeam, beech, Persian ironwood tree, Girkan boxwood, Caucasian persimmon, medlar and others in the mountainous part of the district.
It has been shown by genetic analysis to be closely related to the common medlar Mespilus germanica, which was previously the only known species in the genus.
