Roahrig pitted on lap 218 giving the lead to 1976 ASA Champion Mike Eddy.
The 1978 Winchester 400 marked a milestone in the short history of the event, as Michigan short-track legends Mike Eddy and Bob Senneker engaged in a race-long battle over the 400-lap distance on the "World's Fastest Half Mile".
Catching a huge break when Mike Eddy encountered trouble, Rusty Wallace made the most of his first "Winchester 400" start as he scored the win in the 1982 running of the fall classic.
Mike Eddy grabbed the pole position with a lap of 16.544 seconds (108.800 MPH) among the 33 competitors trying to make the starting field.
Other notable drivers who had driven there (not all of them on a full-time basis) included: Mark Martin, Butch Miller, Bob Senneker, Dick Trickle, Mike Eddy, Johnny Benson Jr., Jamie McMurray, John O'Neal Jr., Terry Bivins, Jenny White, and many others.
A few years later, Eddy was offered to drive the No. 43 truck for Petty Enterprises for the 1996 Craftsman Truck Series season, but once again had to turn down the offer due to his contract with GM Goodwrench at the time.
