He then served as Military Assistant to the Capability Manager (Precision Attack) - Controller of the Navy - in the Ministry of Defence from September 2002 to July 2004.

In 1994, he was sent to formed Yugoslavia as military assistant to general Bertrand de la Presle, and later as military counsellor to Carl Bildt.
In 1995 he was assigned to the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he served as a Military Assistant to Commander, Implementation Force (IFOR) (COMIFOR).
He was demoted to the post of military assistant of the commandant at Hong Prefecture (洪州, roughly modern Nanchang, Jiangxi).
