3 unusual facts about Milwaukee Country Day School

Milwaukee Country Day School

Milwaukee Country Day School (MCD) was a country day school in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee, under the headmastership of A. Gledden Santer (A.B., Cambridge), who had been operating a smaller school called St. Bernard's School since 1911; the school was begun in 1917, "incorporated by leading citizens.".

The school appears ("thinly disguised") in the novel Shadowland by alumnus Peter Straub.

In 1964 it was merged with two other local day schools (Milwaukee University School and Milwaukee-Downer Seminary) to become the University School of Milwaukee, of which MCD's facilities became the South Campus (until they were shut down in 1985).
