Huntley Nowel Spaulding was born in Townsend Harbor, Massachusetts in 1869, to Jonas Spaulding and his wife, Emaline Cummings.
His sons were Leon C., Huntley N. and Rolland H., of whom Huntley and Rolland would serve as governors of New Hampshire.
Their family-owned company manufactured fiberboard, later adding a type of resin laminate named Spauldite (to compete with Bakelite) and fiberglass tubing to their product lines.
