It lies in quite flat dairy farming countryside a mile south of Shredicote and a mile west of Mitton.

Mitton and Lane had been working on several projects prior to his passing, including the production of the computer-animated 26 part TV series Adventures on Orsum Island.
Among this group are Allan, Beare, Brandon, Bultmann, Conzelmann, Dibelius, Goodspeed, Kilsemann, J. Knox, W.L. Knox, Kümmel, K and S Lake, Marxsen, Masson, Mitton, Moffatt, Nineham, Pokorny, Schweizer, and J. Weiss.
The historical Parish of Great Mitton comprised the townships of Old Laund Booth, and Aighton, Bailey and Chaigley in Blackburnshire, and the chapelries of Grindleton and Waddington, and townships of Bashall Eaves, West Bradford in Staincliffe and Mitton itself which straddled the two.
He was the eldest of nine children of John Douglas (1861–1931), originally of Grange, County Tyrone, and his wife, Emily (1864–1933), daughter of John and Mary Mitton of Gortin, Coalisland, County Tyrone.

Mitton officially retired in May 2008, and was succeeded by George LeBlanc, who was sworn into office on May 26, 2008.
The quarto bears Chapman's dedication to John Reed of Mitton, misidentifying Mitton's Worcestershire location as Gloucestershire.
