The town was founded on March 22, 2005 by the merger of the towns of Miwa and Yasu, both from Asakura District.

He performed a monthly show at Shibuya Jean-Jean called "Akihiro Miwa no Sekai" (the world of Akihiro Miwa) from the 1970s until its closure in 2000, as well as touring Japan.

In 2009, Akihiro Miwa played the voice of Arceus in the Pokémon movie, Pokémon: Arceus: To a Conquering Space-Time.
Currently he is providing the voice of Miwa for the first season of the English adaptation of the Cardfight!! Vanguard.
