Geographically and historically it constitutes a much larger area of the entire valley of the river Vydrica, including its upper part located in the Little Carpathians mountains, today no longer associated with Mlynská dolina.
gen. L. Svobodu Street and continues through the eastern side of the Mlynská dolina Street until the State Geological Institute of Dionýz Štúr on Patrónka where the boundary crosses to the other side of the street, continuing to the junction of Lamačská cesta – Cesta na Červený most, then it crosses the railway line Malacky - Bratislava near Bratislava Železná studienka railway station where it sharply turns towards south-east.
The Little Carpathians part was almost untouched, with the exception of upper Mlynská dolina valley.
Cadastrially it is divided into 9 sectors: Karlova Ves, Dlhé diely, Líščie údolie, Krčace, Patrónka, Mlynská dolina, Sitina - ZOO, Karloveská zátoka (Karlova Ves Bay) and Sihoť.
