The dancers are put through a battery of rounds which test their ability to pick up various dance styles (typically some of the more well-represented genres that will later be prominent in the competition phase, such as Hip-Hop, Bollywood Dance, Jazz, Bharat Natyam, Kathak, Mohiniyattam, Odissi and Contemporary).
Kuchipudi, which also prescribes the lip movements indicating Vaachikaabhinaya, and Mohiniyattam are relatively recent Darbari Aatam forms, as is Kathakali, and two eastern Indian styles, Manipuri and Sattriya, that are quite similar.
Unequaled in the art of playing the Chenda (a drum), Unni, and Nalini, peerless in Mohiniyattam (a dance) are drawn to each other by an affection that transcends the devotion to their arts and the love for each other.
