Jean de Quen

He fulfilled a very active ministry there, which brought him into contact with Indians from almost everywhere, more particularly the Montagnais, whose language he learned perfectly.

Bringing two Montagnais with him as guides, Jean de Quen travelled up the Saguenay to Chicoutimi, and took the river of the same name as far as lakes Kenogami and Kénogamishish.

Montagnais

Montagnais (in French) therefore has often been mistakenly translated to Montagnais (in English) which now refers to the Montagnais (Innu language) of northern Quebec and not the Dene (Chipewyan people).

#The French speaking missionaries to the North-West of the Red River Settlement referred to the Dene Chipewyan people as Montagnais in their documents written in French.

She is known for her ethnographic work in Labrador with the Montagnais-Naskapi people, influenced by William Duncan Strong.
