Baf Ülkü Yurdu S.K.

Due to economic underdevelopment and negligence of the Güzelyurt area, Ülkü Yurdu continued to suffer from inconsistency during the early 2000s.

The club is renowned for producing talented young players from its youth ranks raised in the local area of Güzelyurt.

Battle of Tylliria

The Tylliria region of Cyprus was largely enclosed within the Morphou Administrative District in the north-west of the island, forming a large portion of the southern coastline of Morphou Bay.

As an additional measure, two heavy Greek Cypriot patrol gunboats were stationed near Morphou in order to launch a naval strike, should the need arise.

Military operations during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus

This offensive lasted three days and caused the defences of the Cypriot National Guard and ELDYK to collapse, leading to the capture of the towns of Famagusta, Morphou, and the northern quarter of Nicosia.

During this phase, the Commando brigade would advance from its positions at Agios Ermolaos to the south towards Morphou, and on the third day would unite with the Turkish-Cypriot enclave of Limnitis (and not with Kokkina (Erenkoy) enclave).
