The Simpleton (Тюфя′к, Tyufyak - also: The Muff) is the debut novel by Alexei Pisemsky, written in the late 1840 and first published in 1850 by Moskvityanin magazine's October and November issues.
It was in those days that he sent the manuscript to Stepan Shevyryov, the well-known critic who at the time worked for Moskvityanin and who advised the author to re-write the novel.
It was his first major work, written in 1849 and published in the No.6 (March, book 2) 1850 Moskvityanin issue.
The Poor Bride (Бедная невеста, Bednaya nevesta) is a play by Alexander Ostrovsky, written in 1851 and first published in the #4, 1852 issue of Moskvityanin magazine.
