The names of several of Muharraq Island’s villages today reflect this Christian legacy, with Al Dair meaning “the monastery” or "the parish."
The current 15,750m2 campus is located in Busaiteen, in Muharraq island next to King Hamad University Hospital, the main clinical facility for student teaching.
Muharraq island is also the site of Bahrain International Airport, although the local Asalah MP has called for it to be relocated because the sound of aeroplanes landing and taking off has disturbed local residents.
