The commune is situated on the Vingăi Plateau, on the left bank of the Mureș River.
It stretches over approximately 12600 hectares, situated in the contact zone of Metaliferi Mountains and Zărandului Mountains, respectively partially in the large valley of the Mureș River.

Advancing on the northern bank of the Mureş River, on the direction Sâmbăteni-Miniş, concomitantly with an enveloping maneuver of the righ flank of the Romanian troops, the Hungarian 1st Armored and 6th Reserve Infantry Divisions made contact with the "Păuliş" Detachment west of the village of Păuliș (Ópálos), on 14 September.
It was initially founded on the northern bank of the lower Mureş River (in western Romania, between the current city of Arad and the Hungarian border).
The county was situated in the Carpathian Mountains, around the sources and upper courses of the rivers Olt and Mureş.
The Natural Park is located in the superior course of the Mureş River, in the administrative territory of Deda, Răstolița, Lunca Bradului and Stânceni communes, in the north-eastern part of Mureș county.
Unirea is located on the Mureş River, in the north-east corner of Alba County, approximately 50 km from the county capital, Alba Iulia, and 20 km from the town of Turda, on the Romanian National Road DN1.
