On November 28, 2008, MP Abdullah Al-Roumi joined MPs Bin Essa, Hassan Johar, Musallam Al-Barrak, and Marzouq AlـHubaini Al-Azmi in formulating a bill to extend the mandatory retirement age for Kuwaiti teaching staff at Kuwait University from 65 to 70 years.
Opposition MP Musallam Al-Barrak suggested Al-Sanousi had been forced to quit, calling it "a victory for the constitution, democracy and freedom".
In March 2012, Musallam Al-Barrak, Chairman of Kuwait’s Public Funds’ Protection Committee announced that a motion would be filed against officials at the KIA by the Popular Action Bloc, in relation to payments made by the KIA to Kuwaiti companies.
The project was criticized by Ahmed Sadoon and Musallam Al-Barrak of the parliamentary opposition group Popular Action Bloc for allowing international companies a role in developing the fields.
