The main location of Kim Kaphwan is actual site of Namdaemun(or Sungnyemun) located in Seoul, South Korea.

Namdaemun literally means "South Gate" in Korean, As one of Korean National treasure, Namdaemun was built in 1398 and was used as both barrier and gateway from suburb to the city of Seoul.
The management of the market went over to the Japanese in 1922, but after liberation in 1945 the merchants established the Namdaemun Merchant Organization and took over management.
