The first section began in Champigny-sur-Marne, a commune in the south-eastern suburbs of Paris, before proceeding south-easterly through the towns of Nangis, Troyes, Langres, and coming to an end at Belfort, a distance of 375 km.
The wedding celebration lasted from 17 January 1767, until 27 January with feasts in Turin and Nangis.

After the ceremony, for their honeymoon, Louis Alexandre and his bride stayed at the Château de Nangis.
In the 1814 campaign in France he was put in charge of presenting Marie Louise with the allied colours captured at Champ-Aubert, Nangis and Montereau.
