Cheo is a graduate of Nanyang University, where he studied in the Department of Government and Public Administration.
After serving in the military, he achieved first class honors in business and finance at Singapore’s Nanyang University.
Lai Yee Hing graduated with a B.Sc from the former Nanyang University (now National University of Singapore) in 1976 and received his PhD from the University of Victoria in 1980.
The idea of a Chinese university in Singapore to provide higher education to the Chinese community was first mooted by Tan Lark Sye in 1953, then chairman of the Singapore Hokkien Association.
In 2004, Kevin Massie and Michael Saposnik were semi-finalists at the WUDC hosted by Nanyang University in Singapore.
In 1962–1963 he underwent a training at Beijing and later on visited Nanyang University (Singapore) from 1971 to 1972.
