On "Transpacifik" (2003) he started collaborating with American jazz musicians Scott Colley and Nasheet Waits, and continued on "Xenophonia" (2006) with Ben Perowsky and Ari Hoenig, as well as Frenchman Remi Vignolo.
He has performed and recorded with a long string of musicians, including Stanley Jordan, Denardo Coleman, Evan Marian, Charnett Moffett, Rodney Holmes, Tyshawn Sorey, and Nasheet Waits.
It was released on Douglas' Greenleaf Music label in 2011 and features music by Dave Douglas for his band Brass Ecstasy, Vincent Chancey, Luis Bonilla, Marcus Rojas, and Nasheet Waits.
Since then he has played/recorded with: Alex Harding, Reggie Nicholson, Art Baron, Sam Newsome, Barry Altschul, Jorge Sylvester, Brad Jones, Bruce Williams, Damion Reid, Chris Dahlgren, Pheeroan AkLaff, J.D. Allen, Bruce Cox, Hill Greene, Carlo DeRosa, Curtis Fowlkes, Mark Helias, Gene Jackson, Ron Horton, Nasheet Waits, Bob Stewart, Gerald Cleaver, Derrek Phillips, and many more.
After meeting some of the musicians in 1996—pianist Xavier Davis, bassist Dwayne Burno, and drummer Nasheet Waits--David Weiss, who was working on arrangements for Freddie Hubbard, decided to form a self-determining cooperative ensemble, eventually deciding on an octet, leading to a search for wind players.
