Nasu Imperial Villa, located in the town of Nasu, Nasu District in Tochigi Prefecture, is a retreat used by the Japanese Imperial Family.
Other famous parts of Tochigi include a region called Nasu known for onsen and local sake and ski resorts.

In 2003, Kuroda's work Nasu was brought to the attention of animator and director Kitarō Kōsaka by Kōsaka's long-time collaborator from Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki, a fan of cycling.

Together with junior high school classmate and friend, Takashi Takeuchi, Nasu formed Type-Moon in 2000, originally as a dōjin group to create the visual novel Tsukihime, which soon gained immense popularity, much of which is attributed to Nasu's unique style of storytelling.
The station's bus terminal also made Kuroiso a gateway to the neighboring town of Nasu, known in Japan for its mountain hot springs and as the location of the Nasu Imperial Villa.
Lectures and courses in high school are taught by professors of universities and research staff of NASU.
