Heckel's The Battle of Culloden (1746; reprinted 1797) is held by the National Galleries of Scotland.
After Hearst went bankrupt, the paintings were dispersed; one is in the National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh, two are in Hotel Carlyle in New York, one has been in the Allen Memorial Art Museum since 1953 and one is lost.
Scheibitz' works are included in major collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; and the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh.

His many high profile positions have included: Vice Chairman of the Royal Bank of Scotland; Chairman of the Board of Trustees, National Galleries of Scotland, 1988–97; Chairman of the Fine Art Society; and Chairman of Lyon & Turnbull, auctioneers.
It was also unusually visible during the negotiations between the Duke of Sutherland and the National Galleries of Scotland over the £100 million sale of two Titians on loan to the Galleries, with Terence Fane-Saunders acting as spokesman for the Duke.
She has been responsible for lavish patronage of the Edinburgh International Festival, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Scottish Opera and the National Galleries of Scotland.
After the war Waterhouse briefly served as editor to The Burlington Magazine where he was soon succeeded by Benedict Nicolson and began his academic career: Manchester University, 1947–48; Director of the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh (1949–52); Barber Professor of Fine Art, Birmingham University and director of its Barber Institute of Fine Arts (1952–70): Slade professor at Oxford University (1953–55).
She is the daughter of Sir Timothy Clifford, former Director of the National Galleries of Scotland and Jane Clifford, previously the Principal Designer for Laura Ashley and Zoffany.
