3 unusual facts about National Minimum Drinking Age Act

National Minimum Drinking Age Act

When brewing magnate Pete Coors raised the drinking age as a campaign issue during the 2004 U.S. Senate race in Colorado, Republican leaders praised his stand on States' rights but distanced themselves from apparent self-interest.

The act also does not seek to criminalize alcohol consumption during religious occasions; (e.g. communion wines, Kiddush).

Scott L. Klug

While in Congress, Klug opposed the federal drinking age, saying alcohol regulation should be a matter left to individual states, and advocated the revocation of the 1984 National Minimum Drinking Age Act.
