Yorklyn, Delaware

The National Vulcanized Fiber company was headquartered in Yorklyn however since bankruptcy in 2008 the plant has been largely torn down and the land purchased by the State of Delaware for Auburn Heights Preserve, a Delaware State Park.


Vulcanized fibre

In 1922 National Vulcanized Fiber Company emerged as the main competitor to Spaulding Fibre, which had begun developing vulcanized products in Rochester, New Hampshire and Tonawanda, New York, nearly a quarter century after the industry began in Delaware.
