In the early morning hours of December 12, Cassidy lit a cigarette and fell asleep or passed out on his Naugahyde couch.
American singer and musician Frank Zappa mentioned Naugahyde in the 1967 Mothers of Invention song "Brown Shoes Don't Make It": "Every desire is hidden away / In a drawer in a desk by a Naugahyde chair."
His nickname was Nauga, after the animated character used in commercials for Naugahyde.
Green Naugahyde is the first Primus album to feature the trio of bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Jay Lane who originally left Primus in 1988 before their Frizzle Fry debut set.
