Before that, he used to work as assistant to the great Indian Music Director Naushad.
Following a meeting at Temple Trees, Naushad defected from the SLMC to the governing United People's Freedom Alliance during the 2010 parliamentary election campaign and became a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

Rajkumari endured a long dry spell until music director Naushad spotted her singing in the chorus for his background score for Pakeezah (1972).
