The Hanoverian tower, more commonly known as the Naze Tower, is situated at the start of the open area of the Naze.
Pennyhole Bay is a stretch of water situated to the south of the ports of Harwich in Essex and Felixstowe in Suffolk, England where the rivers Stour and Orwell flow into the sea and just east of Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex.
Charles Murray Cathcart, 2nd Earl Cathcart GCB (Walton-on-the-Naze 21 December 1783 – 16 July 1859 St Leonards-on-Sea), styled Lord Greenock between 1814 and 1843, was a British Army general who became Governor General of the Province of Canada and Lieutenant Governor of Canada West (26 November 1845 – 30 January 1847).
The line was then extended to Weeley on 8 January 1866, to Kirby Cross on 28 July 1866, and on to its terminus at Walton-on-the-Naze on 17 May 1867.
