Ships using the Manila galleon trade route usually made landfall on the southern California coast, but it is possible some made landfall as far north as Oregon.

Since 1990 the event has been run on the sandy shores nestled at the foot of Neahkahnie Mountain which is used as a fundraiser for the local fitness center located in Nehalem.
