From 1615 to 1633 William Greenhill held the Magdalen College living of New Shoreham, Sussex.

It was created in 1766 for John Savile, 1st Baron Pollington, Member of Parliament for Hedon and New Shoreham.

William Paine Sheffield, Sr.

Born in New Shoreham (on Block Island), he completed preparatory studies, attended Kingston Academy, and graduated from the law department of Harvard University in 1843; he was admitted to the bar in 1844 and commenced practice in Newport.
