When a group of superheroes known as the New Warriors accidentally blow up a town causing the general public to turn on superheroes and eventually ignite a superhero civil war.

Due to Chord and Tai's urging Dwayne became Night Thrasher and assembled a young team of superheroes named the New Warriors.
He engaged Night Thrasher and his team in combat and would have won if the New Warriors had not retrieved Rand and beat a hasty retreat.

Incidentally, this was one of the sensei’s of the New Warriors leader Night Thrasher.
He first appeared in New Warriors (vol. 1) #2, (August 1990), and was created by Fabian Nicieza and Mark Bagley.
With X-Force on their first mission, Shatterstar battled the Alliance of Evil, and first encountered the New Warriors.
During one of these games, the Upstarts targeted the surviving members of the New Mutants and the Hellions, but were defeated by the combined forces of X-Force and the New Warriors.

Aside from brief cameos in New Warriors and Contest of Champions II - during which they were defeated by the New Warriors in a game of basketball, the teams reasoning that not every contest had to be a straight-out fight - the team made no appearances elsewhere, and in their own series only received a few brief appearances by their inspiration, Spider-Man.
