In April 2013 O'Reilly revealed that she was putting her name forward to be selected as the Labour Party candidate for the Nuneaton seat at the United Kingdom general election, 2015.
The terms of the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 mandate that the election will be held on 7 May 2015 (except in the event of a collapse of government or a two-thirds majority of MPs voting for an early election).

Councillors elected in this election will serve an extended five-year term, after local government minister Carl Sargeant announced the next elections would be moved from 2016 to 2017 to avoid clashing with the next Welsh Assembly election in 2016 (which in turn had been delayed a year to avoid clashing with the next general election).
