After completing studies he joined as an assistant to "Sameer Thahir" in "Daddy Cool" and later he assisted "Sameer Thahir" in "Chaappa Kurish", "Nidra", "Diamond Necklace", "Anchu Sundharikal" etc.
In 2006, Kamakhya Kumar was awarded a PhD by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam (president of India) for his work "Psycho-physiological Changes as Related to Yoga Nidra".
