Jimmy Cox (July 28, 1882 – March 1925) was an American songwriter famous for his Depression-era hit "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out".
The Bessie Smith Songbook includes many of the early jazz standards, such as "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" and "Oh, Daddy Blues".
Clapton recounted: "I also enjoyed going back and playing the old stuff like 'Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out', which was how it all started back in Kingston so long ago".
