In September 1996 he was accepted into the North American Institute of Aviation in Conway, South Carolina, where he undertook some flight training courses, but was expelled from the school a few months later for "lack of progress" in the program.
In early 2008 the school underwent operational tests of the Liberty XL2 as a replacement aircraft for the aging fleet.
