Friedrich Hildebrandt

Friedrich Hildebrandt (19 September 1898, Parchim, Mecklenburg-Schwerin – 5 November 1948, Landsberg am Lech) was an SS Obergruppenführer, a Gauleiter and judged for war crimes in the time of the Third Reich.

Obergruppenführer

Until 1942, it was the highest SS rank inferior only to Reichsführer-SS (Heinrich Himmler).

To avoid having the SS split into two separate entities, one based in Northern Germany and the other in Bavaria, Adolf Hitler promoted Daluege to the new rank of Obergruppenführer making him equal in rank to Himmler.

SS-Obergruppenführer was also the standard rank for SS and Police Leaders as well as corps commanders of the Waffen-SS.

In 1942, he was eventually promoted to the grade of "SS-Obergruppenführer" (General officer).
