In October 1915, while Hauptmann Marnet was flying toward Strasbourg, with a mechanic and an observer, his plane, a Gotha G.I B.14/15, crashed in a freshly tilled field, near Ochsenfurt.
It was one of the places in Germany that King Richard I of England was detained in 1193 while the king was returning to England from the Third Crusade.
In 1193, William, along with the bishop of Salisbury Hubert Walter, found King Richard I of England where he was being held captive at Ochsenfurt in Germany.
The nineteen masters in attendance included those in charge of cathedrals in Regensburg, Vienna (Lorenz Spenning), Basel, Bern, Passau, Salzburg, Konstanz, Weissenau, Landshut, Ingolstadt, Weißenberg, Esslingen, Amberg, Hassfurt, Ochsenfurt and Cologne.
It runs from Treuchtlingen in southern Middle Franconia through Gunzenhausen, Ansbach, Steinach (b Rothenb), Marktbreit and Ochsenfurt to the capital of Lower Franconia, Würzburg.
