2 unusual facts about Olav Duun


Gunnar Reiss-Andersen

Reiss-Andersen was awarded the Norwegian state’s artist salary in 1945; this is a substantial recognition which had previously been awarded to well-recognized writers, poets, playwrights and composers including Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, Henrik Ibsen, Edvard Grieg, Olav Duun and Johan Falkberget.

Olav Duun

The most notable works are his six volume, The People of Juvik, which deals with four generations of a family of peasant landowners.

In 1953 the theatre celebrated its 40th anniversary, and for this occasion four plays were selected, Olav Duun's Medmenneske, Aslaug Vaa's Tjugendedagen, Cora Sandel's Krane's konditori, and Pär Lagerkvist's Han som fekk leva livet om att.
