Born in Campi Bisenzio, Florence, after her debut as a stage actress, Carlisi made her film debut working with Roberto Rossellini in Atti degli apostoli (1968) and then with Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet in Othon (1969).

Also active on television, in 1970 she was the protagonist of the RAI experimental drama Olimpia agli amici, directed by the film critic Adriano Aprà.
