On January 25, 2006 after Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez announced his support for Peruvian Presidential candidate Ollanta Humala Struble was quoted as saying "Chávez should let presidents take care of their countries, and the best thing for the region is Chávez taking care of managing his country" and went on to reprimand Venezuela's actions in the Latin American region.
He later became part of the economic team of Ollanta Humala, who was elected President of the Republic in the second round.
He was the first Minister of Defense of Peru in Ollanta Humala's government and a Congressman, representing the constituency of Callao for the 2011-2016 term.
Member of "Justice and Liberty" he was invited by Ollanta Humala, the candidate of the Peruvian Nationalist Party and he ran as Ollanta Humala's first Vice President during the 2006 national election on the coalition between Union for PeruPeruvian Nationalist Party.
According to a Zenit online news article, with no author listed and dated Tuesday, July 10, 2012, Archbishop Miguel Cabrejos Vidarte, O.F.M., the current Metropolitan Archbishop, has been asked by the President of Peru, President Ollanta Humala, and the Peruvian Minister of Justice, Juan Jiménez, to mediate a mining conflict in the northern Region of Cajamarca, Peru.
