2 unusual facts about Ontario Highway 2


Pittsburgh, Kingston

It includes the east side of the UNESCO-listed Rideau Canal at Kingston Mills (site of the infamous Shafia family murders), hosts a handful of motels serving Ontario Highway 15 and former Ontario Highway 2, a federal prison (Pittsburgh and Joyceville Institutions in Joyceville, Ontario) and three museums (Military Communications and Electronics Museum, RMC Museum and McLaughlin Woodworking Museum).

Welcome, Ontario

It is located at the crossroads of County Road 10, heading north to the community of Canton; County Road 74, heading east to Dale; and County Road 2 (formerly Ontario Highway 2) heading west to Morrish and southeast to interchange 461 on Ontario Highway 401 and further southeast to the town centre of Port Hope.


Lake Shore Boulevard

Prior to 1998, two segments of Lake Shore Boulevard (from the EtobicokeMississauga boundary to the Humber River and from the eastern terminus of the Gardiner Expressway to Woodbine Avenue) were designated as part of Highway 2.

Quebec Route 2

The highway was part of a de facto interprovincial Route 2 that stretched from Windsor, Ontario to Halifax, Nova Scotia, connecting Ontario Highway 2 to New Brunswick Route 2, and further to Nova Scotia, connecting with Trunk 2.
