According to Syrian Christian history, Mar Thoma (St. Thomas), the Apostle of Christ established the Christian Church in India.
He served as the Minister of Food & Civil supplies in the Oommen Chandy Ministry from 2004 to 2006.Presently he is the Revenue Minister of Kerala in the cabinet headed by Oommen Chandy.
Oommen is another Nasrani name variant for the name Thomas, and Chandy means Alexander.
Thomas K Oommen was elected as the Deputy Moderator of Church of South India at the Church of South India Synod held at Vijayawada on 11, January 2014.
