Jon Stone (April 13, 1931 – March 13, 1997) is best known for writing and producing Sesame Street, and is credited with helping develop characters such as Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch and Big Bird.
On the other hand, the left-leaning Now magazine writer Don Wanagas classified Del Grande in a feature column on March 11, 2004, as one of the council's "duds" due to his "Oscar the Grouch persona".

The new characters include parodies of the Sesame Street characters Big Bird, who describes himself as a "big bird," and a self-described "grouch" named "Moody Green Garbage Creature", who resembles Oscar the Grouch, and butch and femme versions of Bert and Ernie, who try to protect Karina and Julie from Oscar.
After the 1969 season, he turned professional and skated with Ice Follies, where he portrayed the role of Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street.
On Sesame Street, Long's character Susan, along with Bob (Bob McGrath) and Big Bird / Oscar the Grouch (Caroll Spinney), is one of only three remaining cast members who were on the first show and have been played by the same actors since the show began.
