The federal government with in lead Nepean-Carleton MP Pierre Poilievre announced $35 million in funding for the project but the majority of the Ottawa City Council refused the funding as it was money coming from a previous $200-million Liberal government announcement in 2004 for the light-rail extension.
He ran for Ottawa City Council in 1988 in the Richmond Ward, but lost to incumbent Jacquelin Holzman.
On 13 April 2011, Ottawa City Council voted to rename Robertson Road and a portion of Richmond Road after the late Lloyd Francis, a land speculator, former Liberal Member of Parliament and former Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons.
