The quarry reservoir, Llyn Cob, was once known as Llyn Owain Lawgoch, after the last male survivor of the princely house of the Kingdom of Gwynedd.
While attempting to lift the siege of Soubise his force was surprised by a French force led by Owain Lawgoch, a Welsh soldier of fortune in the French service.
It is often claimed that his second wife, Katherine, he had a son, Tomas ap Rhodri, the father of Owain but it is most likely that Tomas ap Rhodri, and thus Owain Lawgoch, was a son of a different Rhodri.
